Winter Music Concert

Newman music students from Years 7 - 12 dazzled audience members at this year’s Winter Music Concert on the evening of Wednesday 1 July. The concert featured eleven choirs and concert bands performing a variety of music from contemporary to jazz and the classics.
Highlights of the concert included a soaring medley from Les Miserables by Newman Voices, toe-tapping rhythms from the Newman Jazz, Swing and Groove bands and Year 7/8 SIP choir, and a spectacular finale by the Symphonic Winds band.
40 Newman students who performed at the Winter Music Concert (instrumentalists and choir members) will be travelling to Sydney over the July school holidays to participate in the 20th annual Australian International Music Festival. During the trip, students will have the opportunity to perform at the Sydney Opera House and to mix with musicians from around the world.
Newman College Principal Bernie Boss congratulated all participants on a wonderful concert, and thanked their teachers for the enthusiastic manner in which they developed the students’ talent. He also made mention of the parents’ support group, Friends of Music, for their exceptional support of the music program and Newman College.
