Introduction

The Primary section of Newman College is triple stream and located across two campuses. The Marian Campus in Floreat, caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 3.  The Kindergarten classes are conducted on the basis that there are two classes attending for two full days each week and there are two classes attending for three full days each week. Pre Primary to Year 3 students attend school for five full days each week.

The Lavalla Campus at Churchlands caters for students in Years 4–6 and is adjacent to the Marcellin Campus, where the students move to for Years 7–12.

To ensure safety for the students and peace of mind for parents, all students begin classes at 8.45am. However, finishing times are staggered:

  • Kindergarten sessions are 8.45am – 2.45pm
  • Pre Primary  to Year 3  students finish classes at 3.00pm
  • Years 4–6 students finish classes at 3.15pm.

The Primary school, due to its unique setting on two campuses, has developed a continuum of learning. This begins with the developmentally appropriate child-centred play-based approach of the Early Childhood Foundations at the K-3 Campus, through to the concrete experiences and introduction of the abstract thinking.  There are many other opportunities to develop the spiritual, physical and emotional aspects of childhood development in the Middle and Upper Primary at the 4–6 Campus.

Newman College provides a broad, dynamic curriculum which endeavours to equip all students to reach their full potential, as was the dream of Marcellin Champagnat. The College’s academic program includes a wide variety of specialist classes for all students to develop their individual talents and gifts.
