Co-curricular
Students at Newman College are encouraged to participate in the co-curricular program which is diverse and is considered to be an integral part of the educational environment. Varied activities offer students the opportunity to better understand themselves, their strengths and weaknesses. The programs also help to create a happy school environment where teacher/staff relationships are enhanced in an informal setting. The activities also help to engender curiosity, enthusiasm and a passion for life-long learning and physical activity.
Involvement in such activities also offers students opportunities of service to others within Newman College and the wider community. Sport, music, debating, clubs, extension and support programs, academic competitions and the Remar Group provide further opportunity for enhancing knowledge, skills, friendships and confidence.
The Co-curricular Program includes such areas as:
Debating, Drama, Newman Immersion Experience, Maths Competitions, Music (choirs, orchestras, various ensembles, Concert Band), Science competitions, sporting activities (athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cross country, football, hockey, netball, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, tennis, triathlons, volleyball), Sports Centre - weights room, badminton, basketball, squash and volleyball courts and table tennis facilities, Tournament of Minds, voluntary service groups.
Newman College Sport
Consistent with the ideal of providing a truly holistic education, sport is included as a vital part of school life. Sports activities have an educational benefit for all students and serve to develop their strength, determination, physical skills and co-ordination, as well as their sense of sportsmanship, team spirit and co-operation with staff and peers.
Newman College has a strong record of achievement in sport and has produced many outstanding sports men and women. Students have the opportunity to participate in both inter-school and inter-Guild competitions and great emphasis is placed on the merits of team sport.
The College fields teams in many sports through the College’s participation in four inter-school sporting programs:
