Student Services
The School provides a variety of specialised services for secondary students which extend beyond the normal academic classroom curriculum. Many of these services are interconnected and, in order to provide for their efficient delivery, the professional staff responsible for them are centrally located. This provides for a convenient and comfortable access for students. The services include:
- Careers Advice and Programs
The Careers Team at Newman College aims to provide comprehensive and high quality careers information and support to the School community. This includes information on events, scholarships, open days, employment, training and much more.
The Careers Centre is well equipped to assist students in all aspects of Career Counselling and offers appropriate software and information technology facilities in the ‘drop-in’ area. Here, also, students can seek assistance with the writing of resumes and job applications.
Optional work experience advice, placement assistance and University and TAFE information are also offered. The SWL (Structured Workplace Learning) Co-ordinator also plays an active role in communicating careers and higher education information to students.
Parents and students are welcome to use the Centre and can drop in or make an appointment with one of the careers counsellors.
- Counselling
Counsellors are available to provide confidential support for students. Parents may also make an appointment to discuss relevant matters with counsellors.
- Campus Ministry
A Campus Minister and support staff are involved in ensuring that the charism of the Marist Brothers and the spirit and values of the Catholic Faith are meaningfully reflected in the day to day life of the School. This occurs in a generalised way but also more formally through celebration of liturgies and retreats for both staff and students.
- Academic Support
Professionals who provide specialised academic support (as outlined on a previous page) form part of the Student Services Team.
